First Time With Glass!!!

3-25-2012

Sunday started as a very Brisk Morning around 40's, My friend Pat Cohen of  Super Fly, we loaded up Our Yaks and he picked up his Step Dad, and we meet at a local Pond of ours,  we unload gear up, Now this is the First time in my new Yak and also my first time using a Vintage Fiberglass Fly rod and a Vintage Reel,  So i brought a spare Graphite just in case LOL,

First fly I knot on is a Streamer of Mr Cohen. and I start to cast away, took a while to get used to the Slow action of the Glass Rod but i was getting a hang of it, after about 10 or so cast I hook and Landed my first Fish on Glass

Was a Nice Pickerel, i love the fight and to fish for these fish on fly rod, so we keep on moving around, Pat was having hard time hooking up and his step dad was getting into some nice fish,  as the day went on i was loosing the bite of the Pickerel. so i Changed to a White and Chartreuse Clouser Tied by ME!!!
And it was game on Pickerel after Pickerel, i even managed a Real nice Blue Gill

Also got into a couple Perch  here is the Biggest of the Day

I Also managed to get in to a quick School of Crappies

Here are a few of the Pickerel that i caught, in total for the day i had
10 Pickerel
2 Perch
2 Crappie
1 BlueGill

Not a bad day!!!

This Was the Biggest for the Day  pushing 3lbs  i don't know the length  didn't have Tape Measure with me.

I had a Blast Fishing as always and it was good to get out with Pat, we have not got out together in a while,  Fun times,  he Struggled for the day but i think he figured why his day was not the best  and i quote  these words right from his Mouth   " I should have used my Glass Rods Today"

So now i wait for April 1st witch is Open day for Trout Here in NY, but ill be hitting the Water on the 2nd again with Mr Mr Cohen, so hope to have some good Fish Porn then!!!!!

New Kayak!

3-24-2012

Started my Saturday morning off with a nice Cup of Coffee, relax for a bit with Wife and Daughter, then it was off to get Our Son who had spent the night at he's Papa's house, I had talked about getting a new Kayak for a while so today being a Windy Over-cast day figured why not, so picked up Our Son and headed to the Kayak-Canoe Store, So many to choose from and so many i wanted but way of my price range, so Aiden and i walked around and a Saleswomen came up and asked if i needed help she was very kind, and helpful, so i told her I'm a Fly Fishermen, looking for a good Yak with Space and to be able to Stand Up, so she showed me a few and they were nice but over 1000 bucks, Wife would have Killed me!!!!  so she pointed this one to me it was Made by Native it was the Red Fish in 12Ft, and i sat in it and looked it over and it was exactly what i wanted and i could Stand in it, but it was it a Bright Ass Green, i was not very into the color, so i was asked u would not happen to Have a Different Color? She said let me check, she came back and said Yes we have one in Camo, Now with out even looking at it i was like I WILL  TAKE IT!!!!

I also bought new Paddle and a nice life vest, and had them put on a new rod holder,

I took her out for its first trip the next day, what a great Yak, tracks nice, easy to load, easy to move around in, and great to fish in!!!!, i have not yet stood up in it, but will in time, water is still very cold and really don't feel like getting wet in case i fall!!!

next Blog will be My Fishing Adventure with the new Yak!!!!!!

Weekend Of Fly-fishing

My Son Aiden!!!!!

So my weekends start on Friday's, (i work 4-10 hour Days!!) witch me a Very nice 3 day weekend every week!!! Here in Upstate NY, the weather was looking great, so With Ice fishing gear packed away I spent Thursday night getting my Fly boxes organized and cleaned my Rods and Reels,

Friday i set out to a Local Reservoir hoping ice would be gone. Witch it was Thank God, up at my Local Reservoir there are 3 ponds, 2 of them have a Mix of
your normal warm water Fish, and the Other pond is a Stock Trout Pond with Brown's and Rainbow's and a Hybrid Trout that our Local College breeds a Tiger Trout,

Tiger Trout

This is my first ever Tiger trout and i will tell u what a Fight, this trout was from a couple months ago,

So as i got my gear all set up and rigged i set out to the warm water ponds with not a bite, the fish are still deep from the cold water, so off to the Trout Pond i go A friend of mine was with me, and my son was also, and i Cast and Cast and Change fly after fly i had one bit but to hook up, so i called it a day, but i did get in some great casting practice witch was well needed,

Saturday

I went out Back to my Local Reservoir with my Sisters BF/ co-worker, He is a Newbie to fishing and wants me to teach him to fly fish, so i sometime i will, so he had is spinning gear and i had the Fly rod, we fished hard Moving/Changing Flies. Nothing not even a Bite, so i again walk up to the Trout pond, i ties on a Size 6 Bead head Olive Bugger i tied a while ago, and i Swing and let it sink and wait a bit and the start the strip in and on my 4th tug of the Line, it goes tight, FISH ON!!  i play for a Minute or so and Get it to the Shore and Flip it to the Grass, a nice Size 14in Brown with very nice color

That was it for the Day but i was happy with one fish, So to home i went for Corn Beef and Beer!!!

Sunday

We get back from a Birthday party my wife and kids went to, and my Son was Running on a sugar high, my wife wanted some quiet time, so i suggested ill take Aiden fishing, she Agreed,  Boy Do i love her!!!  So i grab my gear and we head out to a little back wood pond Filled with Monster Blue Gills i figured it getting towards Dusk maybe they would be hitting bugs on Top,  Now i have been going here for a couple years and Ive seen and caught some of my biggest Blue Gills out of here,  so I i tie on a Hard body Popper, i get so nips and i miss a few, so i tie on a Small Dry flie and Boom two hook ups 2 nice Fish, i love the Fight they put up,  Then the Bugs got so bad and started to Bite Aiden and i So i said lets go,

Little Bend in Rod on a Bluegill
